Quincy Police Charge Brockton Man with Driving Into Two Police Cruisers While Drunk

Older Tavares of Brockton was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with his second OUI and operating recklessly so as to endanger.

QUINCY, MA — A Quincy man struck two police cruiser while drunk, police said.

Older Tavares, 41, of Brockton was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with operating under the influence of liquor (second offense) and operating recklessly so as to endanger, according to the Quincy Police Department.

Following a traffic stop at 12:41 a.m. on Quincy Avenue, Officer Keenan observed a vehicle coming towards him at a high rate a speed. Unable to get out of the way, the police vehicle was struck by the Lincoln Continental.

Officer Church responded to the crash and parked behind the Lincoln. After arriving, the Lincoln allegedly backed into Church's cruiser.

Police described the driver, identified as Travers, as having a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath, unsteady on his feet, and glassy and bloodshot eyes.

Following a failed field sobriety test, Travers was taken into custody. His license was suspended for 180 days due to his refusal to take a chemical breath test.

Officer Keenan was transported to Quincy Medical Center for back and neck pain. He has been released.

Travers was scheduled to be arraigned in Quincy District Court Thursday morning.
