Today is Tuesday, Dec. 11, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. Aside from a few passing showers, it should be a pleasant day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect showers before 8 a.m. Otherwise it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Tonight is mostly clear, with a low around 28. (sunrise, 7:03 a.m.; high tide, 8:35 a.m.; low tide, 3:01 p.m.; sunset, 4:10 p.m.)

2. The Salem fire and police departments are investigating two suspicious fire that was allegedly set in Salem overnight. The first was allegedly set by a youth with a moltov cocktail on Canal Street. The second was a vehicle that was torched while parked at Washington Square. Click Here for our full story.

3. The Executive Office for Administration and Finance will host a public hearing tonight at Salem Statue University. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., will present the context for the FY14 state budget and is aimed at gathering comments from stakeholders and members of the public regarding their priorities for funding.

4. The Salem Children's Charity is hosting its 19th Annual Fundraiser this evening at Victoria Station starting at 5 p.m. The event will include raffles, a silent auction from 6 to 8, and a live auction starting at 8:10 p.m. Some of the night's live auction items include an inscribed and signed Johnny Pesky photo (addressed to Ted Williams) and a signed Celtics basketball.

5. Today in History: On Dec. 11, 1972, Apollo 17 became the sixth and last Apollo mission to land on the moon.
