Salem Police Cruiser Maliciously Damaged on Palmer Street

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Monday, May 26:

  • At 4:38 p.m., police responded to a report of a downed tree limb on Holly Street.
  • At 5:37 p.m., police responded to a past hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Pratt Street.
  • At 6:41 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Bridge Street.
  • At 7:00 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Harrison Avenue.
  • At 7:22 p.m., police responded to a report of a "scrapper" going through backyards on Beach Avenue. The man was advised to only take items that are left curbside.
  • At 7:26 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Washington Street.
  • At 8:27 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Jackson Street.
  • At 8:29 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Saunders Street.
  • At 8:47 p.m., police responded to a reported fight on Front Street.
  • At 9:44 p.m., police responded to a fight on Collins Street.
  • At 9:48 p.m., police responded to a report o a woman "laid out on the sidewalk" on Loring Avenue. The woman was found to be highly intoxicated and was placed into protective custody.
  • At 9:51 p.m., police responded to a reported fight at a party on Cross Street Court. Nicole K. Papa, 19, of 3 Cross St. Ct., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:29 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Salem Street.
  • At 10:52 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle at the intersection of Lynch and Congress streets. Genesis M. Vasquez, 23, of 22 Warren St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. 

Tuesday, May 27

  • At 12:16 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Mason Street.
  • At 12:17 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Lussier Street.
  • At 12:38 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Palmer Street. Responding officers reportedly found a large group of approximately 30 people around a motor vehicle that had its music blasting. After a brief foot chase, Eddie F. Rodriguez, 22, of 36 Cedar St., Salem, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and two counts of trespassing.
  • At 12:47 a.m., while handling the incident on Palmer Street, officers reported malicious damage to a police vehicle. Someone reportedly through a cement block off of a parked cruiser, leaving it scratched and dented, police said. 
  • At 1:03 a.m., police responded to a past dispute on Palmer Street.
  • At 1:25 a.m., police responded to a report of people staying in an empty apartment on Lafayette Street. Michelle L. Hart, 39, of the streets of Salem, was arrested for reportedly having four outstanding warrants.
  • At 1:26 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Palmer Street.
  • At 1:46 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Leavitt Street.
  • At 8:18 a.m., police responded to an illegal trash dumping complaint on Loring Avenue.
  • At 12:31 p.m., police responded to a report of a student causing a disturbance on Congress Street.
  • At 1:41 p.m., police responded to a past hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Lafayette Street.
  • At 3:11 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Market Basket on Highland Avenue. Raymond Kelley, 55, of 12 First St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise valued above $100.
