Restaurant Designer Trusts Local Mover to Keep New Decor Under Wraps

DESIGNER TRUSTS LOCAL MOVER TO STORE, GUARD AND DELIVER ‘TOP SECRET’ FURNISHINGS FOR NEW BOSTON RESTAURANT

It’s not like CIA or NSA secrets, but owners and designers of new restaurants like to wait for the grand opening to unveil the latest hot venue.

So when award-winning Boston interior designer Petra Hausberger  (photo) of Somerton Park Interiors ( www.somertonparkinteriors.com) was tapped to design Bastille Kitchen, a new high-end Seth Greenberg restaurant opening soon in the Seaport Innovation District, she was faced with unique logistics issues: During the months preceding the grand opening, who could she trust to receive, inspect, store and install the furniture and décor as it arrived from makers and suppliers around the country? And who could help keep everything ‘under wraps’ and in fresh-from-the-factory condition until it all came together at the new eatery?

Petra handed those critical tasks to Jean Brillant (pronounced bree-yont), owner of Brilliant Move based in Avon, Mass., ( www.brilliantmove.net) with whom she has worked in the past. She says, “The product I am selecting for my client is very expensive and needs to be treated with care. Brilliant Move is a first-class operation and handles the furniture beautifully. They are easy to work with and always deliver in a timely manner.”

Brillant (2nd from right in photo) has proven he can keep a secret. On a regular basis he handles deliveries for some well-known, high-end retailers whose names he won’t divulge, often when the items are bulky or especially fragile. He has managed residential moves for some of the region’s leading business people who request anonymity, often involving antiques, expensive furniture and artwork. “The customer expects their things to arrive in showroom-perfect condition and we provide ‘white-glove’ service,” says Brillant.

One can only guess what Hausberger has in store for Greenberg, co-owner of Mistral. The new Parisian bistro’ style restaurant will be in a former textile factory in the post-industrial Fort Point section. A short distance from Boston’s Children’s Museum, it will have 240 seats on two floors, private function spaces, a bar area and an ‘intimate’ dining room. Until now, most of Hausberger’s work has been high-end residential interiors in New England and Manhattan.

In addition to residential moves (“from dorm rooms to estates”), Jean Brillant is often called on to pick up, warehouse, and/or deliver materials for designers and artists. He notes, “Whether the client is moving into a small apartment, an estate or a new restaurant, the secret really is to treat every possession the way you would want your things to be treated.”
