Booze With Your Burrito? Taco Bell Cantina Eyes Somerville

A concept from Taco Bell that serves boozy Twisted Freezes and beer is looking at space in Davis Square.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Taco Bell is foraying into the liquor business, and Somerville may be its next market.

Taco Bell Cantina, like Taco Bell only way more fun, has its sights set on space in Davis Square. First reported in January by Davis Square LiveJournal poster Ron Newman, the concept from the fast food chain only has a few locations in Chicago, Austin, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

Ward 6 Alderman Lance Davis confirmed in an email that Taco Bell Cantina has been looking at the former iYo Cafe space at 234 Elm Street.

What can you expect from Taco Bell Cantina? All the trappings of a regular Taco Bell, but with boozy drink options. These include Twisty Freezes mixed with tequila, rum, spiced rum, vodka or whiskey and beers on tap, according to Eater.

The cantina also expands on the regular menu options, offering shareable plates in addition to standard Taco Bell fare.

Though a rep for Taco Bell's parent company told Eater last month there isn't "anything concrete" about the project, a neighborhood meeting in Somerville is slated for Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. A location for the meeting has not yet been determined.
