SWAT Standoff Puts Somerville Neighborhood on Edge

SOMERVILLE, MA – A standoff involving SWAT had a Somerville neighborhood on edge Wednesday afternoon.

Police surrounded the Derby Street home, trying to persuade a man to exit; family members told WCVB the 34-year-old had barricaded himself inside the home and had a handgun.

Officers entered the house and removed the man, who was taken to a local hospital, WCVB reported.

During the standoff, residents reported a helicopter above the scene and nearby Healey School was not releasing children without a parent. Some teachers walked kids home.
