Rolling Joint in Car Gets Alleged Dealer Busted, Says Report

A 20-year-old Malden man who was allegedly dealing marijuana got caught after undercover police watched him roll a joint in his car, according to a police report.

The arrest took place at about 9:30 p.m. on June 27 in the parking lot of the , according to the report.

Undercover detectives with the anti-gang and crime unit were stationed in the area when they watched a red Mercedes drive from the side of the parking lot to the Star Market side.

Once there, they watched the driver, Jamil Bowden, of 166 Washington St., Malden, roll a marijuana cigarette, the report says.

The detectives called in backup, and when they searched the car they found 1.175 ounces of a substance they believed was marijuana, according to the report.

Possession of an ounce or less of marijuana for personal use is not considered a criminal offense in Massachusetts, according to Massachusetts Trial Court Law Libraries.

The report says police also found a baggie containing marijuana seeds, a BB gun, a serrated knife, three canisters of "Back Off Dog Repellent," which is a mace, and $706 in cash: evidence police believe is consistent with drug dealing, according to the report.

Please remember that allegations contained in police reports do not indicate a conviction.
