Boston Originated Anti-Bullying Musical The Love Note Captures Growing Education Following

BOSTON, MA January 14, 2013 … Boston-originated “tween” anti-bullying musical The Love Note is gaining favor with educators and their students, with 9 productions to date across the country.  The Love Note’s new curriculum package augments educators’ efforts in fighting bullying in schools, while building important social coping skills and fulfilling school anti-bullying policies.

An original musical, The Love Note entertains audiences while raising awareness on the prominent current issue of teenage bullying.  Many schools further their commitment to the cause by paralleling the production with anti-bullying fundraising through performance proceeds.  Schools producing the musical also have the option to implement the dynamic new curriculum package that educators may
use in conjunction with required school anti-bullying policies.  Currently, The Love Note is in production in Statenville, Georgia; and in licensing planning for Toledo, Ohio, and South Camden, New Jersey.

This upbeat “tween” musical is the latest creation of playwright, composer and Curry College Playwright in Residence Gail Phaneuf of Boston's South End. Phaneuf is an award-winning writer and director of many plays and musicals, including the acclaimed comic musical Monsters! A Midlife Musical Meltdown.

The Love Note is a hilarious and touching tale of young Jessie's arrival at a new and outlandish school with a colorful and zany cast of characters.  Ruthless bullies rule the cafeteria, the unique bookworms stick together behind their books, and a watchful Lunch Lady wields a mean soup ladle.  Jessie sits alone in her new school cafeteria, but gains comfort from the tiny pink “love note” that her mother packs into her lunch bag.  As soon as head bully Brittany pokes fun at her cherished love note and steals her tasty sandwich, Jessie knows she is in trouble.  Jessie and her imaginary friend, Airy, invent a spicy strategy to overcome the lunchroom bullies. Bolstered by her ever-growing hunger, the attention of cute boy Peter from math class, and cheeky advice from Airy, Jessie gains the ourage to stand up for her lunch!
