Here's the list of what is open and closed in most states on Thanksgiving this year, Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011:

Open at Owner's Discretion:

  • Convenience Stores
  • Restaurants/Bars/Taverns
  • Gyms/Health Clubs
  • Call ahead before heading to any of the above establishments to confirm they are open. Many restaurants or gyms/health clubs may be operating on a Sunday schedule or with limited hours.

  • Most supermarkets
  • Banks 
  • No mail delivery - All U.S post offices are closed
  • Federal Offices
  • State Offices
  • Town Hall and Municipal Offices (Stoughton Town Hall)
  • Schools (Stoughton Public Schools)
  • Libraries (Stoughton Public Library)
  • Stoughton Senior Center

No Trash Pickup on Thanksgiving Day in Stoughton

On Thursday, Nov. 22, there will be no curbside trash collection in observance of Thanksgiving Day. Trash collection for Thanksgiving Day will be scheduled for Friday, Nov. 23, in addition to the regular Friday collection. This is standard procedure for any holiday.

Residents are reminded to have their trash out at 7 a.m. on the day of their scheduled collection.

MBTA Thanksgiving Schedule

The commuter rail and subway will be operating on a Sunday schedule for Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 22, resuming a regular weekday schedule on Friday, Nov. 23.

Stoughton High Football

Ticket sales for the 87th Thanksgiving Day Football game between Stoughton and Canton (at Stoughton High) begin at 8:45 a.m. Adults = $8, Students/Senior Citizens = $5. Game starts at 10 a.m.

What is Open/Closed on Friday?

On Friday, Nov. 23, the Stoughton Town Hall, Stoughton Public Schools and Stoughton Senior Center will remain closed.

The Stoughton Public Library will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
