What's Open, Closed on Patriots’ Day

Here's the list of what is open and closed in Massachusetts/Stoughton on Patriots’ Day this year, Monday, April 16, 2012:

Open (at owner’s discretion):

  • Banks 
  • Stock Market
  • Federal Offices
  • Post Offices – regular mail delivery
  • Gas Stations
  • Retail Stores
  • Convenience Stores
  • Liquor Stores
  • Supermarkets
  • Restaurants/Bars/Taverns
  • Gyms/Health Clubs
  • Call ahead before heading to any of the above establishments to confirm they are open.


  • State Offices
  • Town Hall and Municipal Offices ()
  • Schools—it’s April vacation ()
  • Libraries ()

No Trash Pickup in Stoughton on Patriots' Day

There will be no curbside trash collection on Monday, April 16, 2012, in observance of Patriots’ Day.

Trash collection for 4/16 will be scheduled for Tuesday, April 17 in addition to the regular Tuesday collection. This is standard procedure for any holiday.  

All rubbish and recyclables must be curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day. No barrel over 30-gallon size will be emptied. Large household appliances (metal items) must be called into the Public Works for appointment for pickup.


Regular weekday service for Commuter Rail and Subway. Red, Blue, Orange and Green lines will have extra service before and after the Boston Marathon. The Copley Station will be closed all day.
