LINCOLN SUDBURY GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY WINS MANCHESTER, NH INVITATIONAL MEET

The Lincoln-Sudbury Girls Cross Country team had a busy week with a big win over Acton-Boxborough to improve its record to 2-0 for the season. It was a true team effort as L-S took places 2-9 with all 8 L-S runners finishing within 4 seconds of each other. Sophmore Sydney Clary led the group with a time of 17:56 for the 2.75 mile course followed closely by Sam Cook 17:56,Brianna Bisson 17:57, Katie LaScaleia 17:57, Daniela Hargus 17:57, Morgane Butler 17:57, Dory Lustig 17:58 and Ariel Keklak 18:00.

The JV team was equally impressive by taking the first 13 places for the win over AB led by Sophmore Peri Segel.

On Saturday, the Warriors traveled to Derryfield Park in Manchester, N.H., to compete in the 38th annual Manchester Invitational Cross Country Meet. Derryfield Park offered a challenging 5K course and included two steeplechase barriers and abundant vertical ascent from the McIntyre ski hill. 82 high school teams from most northeast states were on hand including athletes from New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Maine and Vermont. L-S entered 21 runners, seven each into girls freshman, girls JV and girls large school varsity events.

The girls freshman team was led by Ariel Keklak who finished 15th overall and led the squad to a 6th place finish in a field of 170 runners. The other freshman results included; Clara Bisson/41st, Shannon Johnson/54th, Nancy Lucier/59th, Mia Vigener/84th, Chloe Faucher/100th and Claire Telfer/148th

The L-S girls JV team finished 4th overall and were led by a strong effort and 3rd place finish by Jillian Valpey in a crowded field of 285 runners. The other runners included Sarah Mepham/28th, Peri Segel/29th, Anna Kelly/46th, Kate Lawson/54th, Rosie Rust/58th and Kayla Harvey/61st

The girls varsity brought home the first-place trophy for the Large School Division. Displaying great, team-balance, Sydney Clary, Katie LaScaleia and Morgane Butler  finished 20th, 22nd and 24th in the field of 168 runners. Daniela Hargus/30th and Sam Cook/35th followed closely behind. Rounding out the varsity runners were Brianna Bisson/75th and Dori Lustig/89th.

After the meet Coach Phelan was excited about the program’s performance.

“We have good team this year with balance in all three age-groups," he said. "Today was a good race to gage our progress early in the season.”
