Six Sudbury Students Students Join the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra

Six students from Sudbury will perform with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra during its final concert of its 56th season.

Boston Youth Symphony, BYSO’s premier orchestra, will perform Wagner’s Overture to Tannhäuser and Strauss’ Death and Transfiguration. BYSO’s Repertory Orchestra (REP) will also perform Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 under conductor Mark Miller.

The concert takes place on Sunday, June 15, at 4 p.m. at the Sanders Theatre at Harvard University.

The students from Sudbury are:

  • Gregory Derecho, Sudbury, 16, BYS, Violin
  • Eric Qin, Sudbury, 16, REP, Clarinet
  • James (Henry) Scott, Sudbury, 15, REP, Horn
  • Rohan Shankar, Sudbury, 16, REP, Viola
  • Lillian Vellom, Sudbury, 18, BYS, Double Bass
  • Eugenia Zhang, Sudbury, 12, BYS, Violin

"Every Sunday for more than nine months, these young musicians have spent hours rehearsing together, sharing their love of music and disseminating this passion with audience members at concerts throughout the season," said Ern Keegan Ianni, director of Marketing and Public Relations. "BYSO pays special tribute to the 56 young students who will be performing their final concert with BYSO as they graduate from high school and continue their path in life."
