Cheers, Beers, and Eastern Promise Receives Rave Reviews

Cheers, Beers, and Eastern Promise Receives Rave Reviews Cheers, Beers, and Eastern Promise Receives Rave Reviews

Local author, Gerry Abbey, recently published his debut novel, Cheers, Beers, and Eastern Promise. This memoir about his year as a Fulbright scholar chronicles the struggle of transition from collegiate to professional life in a most unfamiliar setting: a native village in rural Taiwan.

Twenty-three years old. Newly graduated and an aspiring professional.  Abbey crash lands into this year of learning through failure as he finds that in his role as teacher he’s much more often the student.

As he tries and fails to adapt, the author introduces you to a vivid cast of characters, many of whom he befriends while encountering a gauntlet of life-changing experiences. There’re nightly dinners full of excess, missed meetings, late nights of karaoke, crashed motorcycles, temple visits to ask for godly protection (and forgiveness), and ultimately the bedrock of failure found while on vacation in Thailand before his rebirth in a new semester. Through it all, laughter pours from the pages although the end will leave you saddened as you say goodbye to the memories and friends that you feel are partly yours.

Now available at Porter Square Books, Harvard Bookstore, Trident Booksellers & Café, Amazon.com, and CreateSpace.com.
