Fantastic Season for the U12 Screaming Eagles

The boys soccer team developed into a well-oiled machine.

Fantastic Season for the U12 Screaming Eagles

We are Screaming Eagles - a division three Swampscott U12 soccer team. We (Greg Gutin and Adam Roth) were privileged to coach this team for the past three seasons. During this time, the team made significant progress and moved up three levels, thanks to the players' drastically improving skills. This gave us an opportunity to face teams of higher skill each season.

Although our first two seasons were good, and we always managed to be in the middle of our group’s competition, this past fall season held the most significance for us. Our team had five wins, two losses, and one tie. Our last game was especially important as we faced the North Andover team for the second time this season.  We did lose that first game with North Andover’s team and after that they went undefeated in our division until they met the Screaming Eagles once again on Nov. 4.

It was an exciting game to watch  — North Andover scored the first goal after 10 minutes of play. However, it didn't diminish the will of Screaming Eagles to take the game back. At the end of the first half, J. Murphy Bachner utilized an awarded direct penalty kick and sent the ball sailing around the wall of players, and into the goal's corner.

This was a goal worthy of any top level soccer team. After, both teams continued to move the ball back and forth, but Screaming Eagles were able to hold the line. The game ended with 1:1 score. It was a team effort and it would never have happened, had all the players not come together and worked like a well-oiled machine.

Our goalie (Mathew Clark) saved us several times. Our defense line (Reece Klusza, Isaac Green, J. Murphy Bachner and Jason Sinatra) held all attacks at bay. Our midfielder (Kyle Lenihan) was worked tirelessly between lines, providing connection between offense and the defense line. Our offense players (Joshua Badal-Rodrigues, Gregory Grimaylo, Michael Gutin, Brandon Roth, Benjamin Jacobson, J. Murphy Bachner) continued the attack on North Andover and kept them on defense.

And of course, we must mention our offense player Joseph Varghese, who could not make to our last game, but whose contributions to the other games were very significant.

Screaming Eagles had a great fall season and fantastic final game. We are now a very proud third place in our division.
