Flu Shot — or Not

You might be surprised to hear the results of an informal survey of customers and others outside CVS on Monday.

Flu Shot — or Not Flu Shot — or Not

Flu shmoo.

At least that's what it seemed people surveyed outside CVS pharmacy were thinking in Swampscott Monday.

While others are scrambling to get a flu shot in a season where the flu is rampant some have yet to get one and aren't frantic to do so.

Bob Jean of Salem hasn't had a flu shot since 1946. It was just after World War II. He served in the US Navy from 1944-46 in the South Pacific aboard a cargo ship ferrying Marines and munitions.

Nearby in the CVS parking lot, waiting in a car for a friend, Swampscott resident Denis Dorgan said he has not got a flu shot this year.

The Swampscott High Class of 2011 grad has been working at a hospital and thought about getting one but hasn't.

But he might be getting one soon. And again there is a military connection. He has signed up for the US Army and soon will be shipping out to boot camp.

Elizabeth Brooking of Salem has yet to get a flu shot, either.

She has given it some thought, she said. And even researched it. But has yet to move on getting a shot.

Meanwhile, for those who want a shot from a local pharmacy, CVS pharmacists from Quincy to Salem and out to Newton said on Sunday that they were out of flu shots, said the Boston Business Journal.
