A Beverly woman found a diaper bag at Marshalls. It turned out to contain $11,000 cash. Then the person did something shocking — turned it in to police.

The blue paisley bag hanging from a Marshalls rack grabbed the shopper's attention.

When she unzipped it what really opened her eyes were the contents — and not just the diapers and baby wipes.

Cheryl Gavazzi of Beverly found cash, $11,000, according to Swampscott police and WBZ's news radio 1030's website.

Gavazzi brought the money and the bag to Beverly Police, not knowing the Swampscott station's location.

Swampcott police had already received a report about the lost bag. A man told them his wife was missing the bag she brought into Marshalls.

Police returned the money to the couple.

The money was raised to build a church in Guatemala.

[Editor's note: The original post had this as a paper bag being returned to Swampscott Police. That has since been corrected.]
