School Officials Announce Forums and Special Town Meeting

Superintendent Lynne Celli told School Committee members on Wednesday that the Special Town Meeting on funding for a study on the district's elementary school building needs is scheduled Oct. 15.

The study is expected to cost between $400,000 and $600,000, with the state reimbursing part of the cost. The appropriation would pay for two firms to complete a two-year feasibility study and schematic design package for the project.

Towns such as Swampscott typically qualify for a partial reimbursement, according to local officials.

Town Meeting members will vote on the proposed study at the Special Town Meeting. A two-thirds super-majority is needed for approval.

First, though School Building Committee members will hold their second and third community forums, Sept. 11 and Oct. 2, on the proposed building of a new elementary school.

The forums are both scheduled to take place at at 7 p.m.
