'Chew-n-Screw' Plus Hit And Run Equals OUI Arrest

A Tewksbury woman is facing drunk driving charges after allegedly skipping out on a restaurant bill in Andover and then leaving the scene of an accident.

On Tuesday, April 24, Andover Police called to request that a Tewksbury resident be contacted regarding allegations of a "chew-n-screw and hit-and-run" that had taken place in their community earlier in the evening.

Tewksbury Police were able to track down the vehicle from the description and license plate provided by their Andover counterparts and, after a brief investigation, arrested the driver. Gia M. Amato, 21, 749 North St, Tewksbury, is charged with OUI-liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

It is unclear if Amato is also facing criminal charges in Andover.

Additional Incidents:

On April 26, just after 9:30 p.m., a driver called police to report that a smoothie had been thrown onto his windshield while he was driving on South Street. Officers responded to the scene but were unable to locate the person who threw the smoothie. There was no damage to the car.

On April 27, just before 7 a.m., a Lake Street resident called police and reported that her car had just been stolen from out of her driveway. She said the thief was fleeing in the car down Lake Street and was headed toward Main Street. Officers responded to the scene and a Be On The Lookout alert was put out on the vehicle.

On April 27, around 11:30 a.m., a clerk from Tedeschi's reported that a female customer had just passed a counterfeit $10 bill. She said the woman was a white female with long black hair and was wearing white pants. After passing the phony bill, the woman immediately left the store and fled in a car, according to the clerk.

On April 26, around 6:30 a.m., a Heidenrich Drive resident said she spotted two suspicious looking men standing on the other side of her backyard fence when she let her dog outside in the morning. She said as soon as the men saw her they fled into the woods. Officers responded to the scene but they were unable to locate the men.
