Hi-Tech Progress for The Self-Defense Institute (TSDI) – June 2014:

(1)Website is “mobile ready”

(2) Joined Facebook (and you should too)

(3) Joined Twitter (and you should too)

(4) Contracted New Business Solution for Internet/Phone

One obstacle after another….we are always willing to turn negatives into positives….

Website via DexMedia (was SuperMedia; and originally, in 1999, was Verizon)

Updated our current website, www.tsdiOnLine.om as we were positioned by SuperMedia to do so because it was required that our website be updated on their new platform (yes, this upgrade cost more, of course, and it was mandatory).  We were very surprised at how much paperwork and time it took to get our website “mobile ready”.  DexMedia is promising better service to all of their customers.  TSDI’s website is finally ‘mobile ready’.   Check it out: www.tsdiOnLine.com

Facebook

When we joined Facebook back in the Fall of last year (October 2013, even though it said something about TSDI joining in 2010, which was not true), it literally took over two weeks to claim this listing (no exaggeration here) so we could author this business listing, which was created when FaceBook members were Searching for The Self Defense Institute.  When the status for “The Self-Defense Institute” read “Permanently Closed” (and we had a lot of concerned people calling and emailing) we decided to take action and get a hold of this business listing so no one can cyberbully us on Facebook again. (long story) We found that many people are not on Facebook yet.  Slowly, more are agreeing to try it and are not regretting it. Remember, when you search on Facebook, type no hyphen between Self and Defense.  Facebook does not recognize hyphens.

Twitter

Twitter is a great experience so far.  The funniest tweet is from the CIA, who’s first-ever tweet this week was “We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet”….most of us are offered the standard “This is my first tweet” as the initial tweet to get you started.

Our experiences so far with Twitter AND Facebook have been very positive and informative.  It is great to get Breaking News and News updates from local/regional/national News/Breaking News sources (you decide what you want updates on)  daily in the news feed.  We should have joined Facebook AND Twitter years ago.  We know a lot of people have yet to join Facebook and/or Twitter.  We highly recommend both.  What are you waiting for?  Time to jump in like we did!  You won’t regret it!  Who doesn’t want to be updated on current events of national, regional and local interest?!  J

Verizon

As our internet and phone solution, Verizon FIOS was chosen this past winter after years of bad service from Comcast.  We decided to change to Verizon because our internet connection via Comcast needed to be reset daily and service calls to Comcast to ask why there is static on the phone line was getting to be a daily waste of our time.  In 2014 there should not be static on the phone lines (and the internet shouldn’t go down daily). Right?

When we decided to use FIOS (Verizon) as our internet solution, we didn’t realize that Verizon would have to have their service personnel physically ‘fixing’ the lines all winter long.  Once when our internet and phone went out, and TV was fine, we called Verizon and they said no service personnel had been dispatched to our area in months. We forwarded the pictures attached here to them to show them their personnel who were ‘working on the lines..taking them down and putting them back up’ weekly.  We told Verizon, also, that when we updated our computers to Windows 8.1, our Verizon (brand new) email accounts were not recognized by Windows 8.1, so we bypassed this process.  Verizon has no answer to this question as of yet.  Right now, our internet, phone and TV work better than when we were with  Comcast (no static on phone lines; and the internet connection, so far, is stable) and the Verizon personnel are no longer physically on the lines (fixing something….???....with no service ticket).

Hi-Tech Progress for TSDI….join us on the road to hi-tech change…change is a good thing…moving forward is possible…and is rewarding…obstacles/negatives can be turned into positives….’nothing is impossible to a willing mind’…see you on Twitter and Facebook…remember: awareness, establish, understand and report…ignoring something does not make it go away…take action…
