Melrose:  : After only one year as principal of Melrose High School, Dan Richards might be leaving. Richards is one of two finalists to become the next Belmont High School principal, along with Purnima Vadhera, the interim principal of the Arthur D. Healey School in Somerville. Richards had previously been Belmont High School's assistant principal of instruction for six years, before coming to Melrose High School, working closely with Dr. Michael Harvey, the current Belmont High School  principal who was named superintendent of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District.

Stoneham:  :  are searching for a woman accused of stealing merchandise and assaulting a loss prevention officer at  Monday night. About 6 p.m. June 11, police responded to Marshalls at Redstone Shopping Center for a report of a shoplifter who punched a female loss prevention officer in the face upon being stopped at the exit, according to an email to Stoneham Patch from Detective Christopher Dalis. "The female suspect then threw a liquid in the (loss prevention) officer's face stating, 'I can’t go back to jail!' and fled the area on foot," wrote Dalis. "Witnesses observed the female suspect cross Main (Street) fleeing up Marie (Avenue) toward the woods at the end of the street."

Malden: : Malden High School's varisty softball team made history again Tuesday night, beating out Bridgewater-Raynham 5-4 during tense extra innings to secure the team's first ever regional championship title. Emily Moran scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, when teammate Melissa Light's hit to the pitcher's mound was mishandled, allowing Moran to cross home plate and break a 4-4 tie.
