Starting Wednesday, Nov. 14, drivers along Rte. I-93 and I-95 in the Walpole area will begin to see the benefits from the longstanding Massachusetts Department of Transportation's "Add-a-Lane" project.

Construction crews began opening portions of a fourth travel lane on the highway between Randolph and Westwood Wednesday morning, according to a report on WCVB.com

Limits for the project begin on Rte. I-93 in Randolph near the interchange with Rte. 24, from where the work extends west towards Canton.

MassDOT plans to open up the fourth lane of travel in the following ways, according the MassDOT:

  • The section of Rte. I-93 north between Rte. I-95 (Exit 1) in Canton and Rte. 24 (Exit 4) in Randolph will open at 5 a.m. on Nov. 14.
  • The section of Rte. I-95 south between University Avenue (Exit 13) and Rte. I-93 North (Exit 12) in Canton will open at 5 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15.
  • The section of Rte. I-95 South between just south of Rte. 109 (Exit 16) and University Avenue (Exit 13) will open at 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16.

As soon as the fourth travel lane has been opened for drivers, MassDOT will discontinue authorized use of the breakdown lane for travel during rush hour, according to WCVB.com.
