Man Charged With Vandalizing Waltham Cemetery

A homeless man is facing charges for allegedly vandalizing the Grove Hill Cemetery on Main Street, according to Waltham District Court records.

Mark Bolotte, 30, who is homeless but listed at living at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans hospital in Bedford, is facing a count of vandalizing a gravestone and another count of vandalizing a planting at a cemetery, according to court records.

Bolotte was ordered held during his Oct. 11 arraignment at Waltham District Court. If he does make bail, he is required to stay away from the funeral home and cemetary. He is scheduled for an Oct. 24 pre-trial hearing.

Bolotte was arrested on Oct. 10 after police responded to the cemetery for a report of a man cutting a tree on the property, according to a police report. When police arrived, a witness told them the man had kicked over a headstone of a man who died in 1867 and had been cutting tree branches on the property. The man fled after the official yelled at him. Police quickly caught up with the suspect and found him sitting on a gravestone. The suspect told police he was playing hide and seek in the cemetary, but police did not see anybody else playing the game.
