Waltham Fire Responds to 13 Emergency Calls on Brandeis Campus

Waltham firefighters were called to the school more than a dozen times Sunday; at least nine calls were for students with alcohol poisoning.

WALTHAM, MA - The Waltham Fire Department responded to 13 calls at Brandeis University Sunday, several of which were related to intoxicated students.

Waltham fire officials told the Waltham News Tribune at least nine of those reports were for students with alcohol poisoning.

On Sunday the university held its annual Springfest concert on Chapels Field. Though a fire department detail is sometimes assigned to large events on the Brandeis campus, there was no detail at Springfest, the Waltham News Tribune reported.

According to the Tribune, the first call came in at 2:52 p.m. for an unresponsive 20-year-old woman at the Village C Residence Hall at 415 South St.

From then until around 6:20 p.m., emergency crews responded to Shapiro Residence Hall, Deroy Residence Hall, Rosenthal Residence Hall East, the Goldfarb Library area, Usdan Student Center and Chapels Field. Many patients were evaluated and taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital for treatment.

A number of the students were underage, fire officials told the Waltham News Tribune.
