Former Bruin's Enforcer Will Talk About His Book in Newton

Chris Nilan will talk about how he became addicted to drugs after his career was over and how he triumphed over it.

Former Bruin's Enforcer Will Talk About His Book in Newton
Former Boston Bruins player Chris Nilan found that the qualities that made him a great enforcer did not translate well to the real world after he retired from the NHL.

The Boston native, who now lives in Montreal, will speak about his new book, "Fighting Back: The Chris Nilan Story," at New England Mobile Book Fair on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.

After a pro hockey career playing with Boston, Montreal and the New York Rangers - which included a Stanley Cup - Nilan retired. He turned to drugs and alcohol to dull his pain and nearly died from an overdose, according to an announcement about the event.

The book chronicles a life of the booze, bills, and drugs that impacts many athletes after their careers are over. It also describes how Nilan was able to win his fight against his demons.
