Local Residents Honored for Marathon Fundraising Efforts

Seventeen Wellesley walkers were recently honored as “Pacesetters” for their fundraising efforts during last year’s Boston Marathon.

The Wellesley residents raised $62,401 during last year’s Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. They were honored March 27.

Pacesetters are considered among the highest fundraisers in the walk, according to a statement.

“The commitment of our walkers, especially the more than 1,600 Pacesetters, is essential in the Walk’s fundraising efforts,” said Ann Beach, director of the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.

More than 8,500 people walk up to 26.2 miles in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. It is the only event, other than the Boston Marathon itself, that is sanctioned by the Boston Athletic Association to use the official historic marathon route from Hopkinton to Boston.

The Walk is an annual event that has raised $73 million since 1989.
