Obituary: Anthony C. Donato, Invented Track Lighting
Obituary from George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home: 

Anthony C. Donato, of Wellesley, formerly of Westfield, N.J., passed away Jan. 13, 2014.

A graduate of Pratt Institute with a B.F.A in Industrial Design, Mr. Donato was the former senior product designer at Lightolier. Mr. Donato invented track lighting, holding the first patent awarded in 1961. Throughout his career he designed lighting fixtures for the track system, obtaining 32 United States patents and numerous professional accolades, including being honored as a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society. The products he designed are still found today in museums, galleries, retail spaces and homes worldwide, including The Museum of Modern Art and The Smithsonian.

Mr. Donato is survived by his wife, Patricia; his two daughters, Carlene Geraci and her husband Lorenzo of Duxbury and Marggy Gabriel and her husband Philippe of Wellesley; his grandchildren, Charlotte, Sabrina and Audrey Gabriel; and his two sisters, Frances Tango of Brandon, Fla. and Veronica York of Wood-Ridge, N.J. 

Funeral Mass will be at St. Paul Church, 502 Washington St., Wellesley, 02482 at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Reception to follow thereafter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , NE Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
