Wellesley Chief of Terrence Cunningham held a send off reception at police headquarters Friday for Deputy Chief William G. Brooks III, who takes over as police chief in Norwood May 1.

According to a post on the Wellesley Police Department website announcement's page, Cunningham spoke of the department’s progress during Brooks tenure with the department.

“Deputy Chief Brooks will become ‘Chief’ Brooks on Tuesday, May 1, 2012,” the post says. “The Wellesley Police Department wishes him well."

Brooks was awarded a plaque, and Barbara Searle, chair of the Board of Selectmen, spoke about working with Brooks’ on a variety of town projects.

Most recently, Brooks has been following the town’s preliminary decision to reduce the minimum number of restaurants seats required for an alcohol license from 100 to 50.
