Sinkhole on Highway in Wellesley

A sinkhole opened on Interstate 95/Route128 in Wellesley Monday afternoon, likely creating heavy delays for the evening commute.

State Police reported the incident at 12:45 p.m. They urged drivers to seek another route because workers were expected to be at the scene until about 6 p.m. Only one lane of the highway was expected to be open during the repair work.

Heavy rain drenched the region Sunday, flooding another section of Route 128 in Lexington and making roads more susceptible to sinkholes.

More rain is on the way Tuesday.
