Wellesley Resident Ends Sportscasting Career With WCVB

Wellesley resident Mike Dowling will end his sportscasting career with WCVB Channel 5 later this month.

According to the news station, Dowling’s final on-air appearance with Channel 5 will be Feb. 21.

Dowling has worked for WCVB for 28 years, covering the Boston Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins, as well as the New England Patriots and high school sports. Since 1985, he has covered over 20 championship games or series.

"I've been living the dream," said Dowling. "Working for the best television station in Boston and in the best sports town in the country – you can't beat that. I feel like I've seen and covered it all, and have enjoyed every minute of it. But after over 33 years in the business, I want to spend more time with my family, to which I'm looking forward while pursuing some interests that I've been thinking about for a while."

Dowling has volunteered with the Wellesley Education Foundation for the past 25 years, in addition to the Ronald McDonald House, the South Norfolk County Association for Retarded Citizens, the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, the Massachusetts Golf Association and the Boy Scouts of America.
