Woman Charged With Killing Unborn Baby Out On Bail

Ayanna Woodhouse was released from Suffolk County Courthouse yesterday.

Ayanna Woodhouse of Wellesley, charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault and battery for an attack prosecutors say killed an unborn child, was released yesterday from Suffolk County Courthouse on bail.

Yesterday at Suffolk Superior Court, Woodhouse's lawyer, John Hayes, asked that bail be set for $3,000.  Superior Court Clerk Magistrate Connie S. Wong instead set bail at $20,000 cash, $200,000 surety. In the event that she made bail, Wong also ordered Woodhouse to stay away from the child's mother, Tori Catron, 26, also of Wellesley, and check in weekly with the Department of Probation.

According to the court clerk's office, Woodhouse made bail with a check in the amount of $20,000.

According to Jake Wark, Press Secretary for the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, Massachusetts law says a homicide charge may be brought in the death of a fetus if the fetus was medically viable at the time of the trauma that ended its life, as doctors found this victim was.

However, Wark said, there will be no additional charges for Woodhouse.
