Polito told the audience that Cavaretta’s experience as a teacher means he has experience working with both sides, while also understanding what changes need to be made in Massachusetts’ education policy.
“Dean’s his own person, and he understands his values,” Polito said. “He is the type of legislator we need to challenge the status quo,” Polito added.

Meanwhile, Cavaretta spoke about the struggling Massachusetts economy, which he said was 47th in the country in job creation. Cavaretta explained that in some parts of central Massachusetts the commercial vacancy rate is 40 to 50 percent.
“We have a choice this election season to bring new jobs to Massachusetts,” Cavaretta said. “Generation Y is moving anywhere but here right now,” he commented.
Cavaretta also explained how he would immediately work to help create an environment for job growth in the private sector. Cavaretta told the audience that he has already submitted a Citizen’s Petition Job’s Bill to the Massachusetts Legislature. The Bill calls for a revenue neutral strategy by lowering personal and corporate income tax rates, while at the same time eliminating corporate tax loopholes and other subsidies. Additionally, the bill requires the legislature to establish a two-year budget cycle as a way to help local municipalities with local budgeting and staffing decisions.
Cavaretta is running for the Senate seat currently held by Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton).
