Goodbye For (Then and) Now

For the last "Then and Now" column, let's take a look back at some of the photos we've featured.

Editor's Note: Today, we say goodbye to "Then and Now" columnist and Westborough resident , who is completing his senior year at Georgetown University. He is off to prepare for life after graduation. Westborough Patch has been lucky to have his contributions over the past year, and we all wish him much success in the future!

Good morning, Patchers!

Thank you for an incredible year of Then and Now features. This post is going to conclude our series, so I want to take a moment and thank you for reading, leaving comments, and sending e-mails. I am very appreciative for all of your feedback, and I hope you enjoyed reading the column as much as I enjoyed writing it.

That being said, we have some winners to announce!

Congratulations to and for correctly identifying the location of the two .

The first photo (with the white building in the upper right-hand corner and the grassy field in the top center) is of the intersection of Water Street and East Main Street where present-day , , and are located. Neither CVS nor Honey Dew Donuts were constructed at the time of the photo (1958), but you can see the Sovereign Bank building on the right hand side of the photo.

The second photo (of a large building on the right hand side and a road that appears to split on a very tight bend) is of the intersection of School Street and South Street with Beach Street running parallel to the bottom of the photo. The large factory is the - which we did a feature about several weeks ago. Today, stands where the factory once stood.

I got hung up on that second photo trying to figure out where in Westborough we had a road that split on such a sharp bend - but I'm sure there were some residents of School Street and South Street who were able to figure it out right away.

In light of the fact that this is our last Then and Now column, I posted some of the photos from past weeks and encourage you to take a look back at some of the past features (listed below)...there's a lot to read!

Past Then and Now Features:

And, for those of you who enjoyed guessing the Where Is That? photos - we posted several of those as well:

Thank you again to everyone for reading each week, and a speacial thank you to the as well as Paula Skog for providing both the photos and much of the research used in each week's feature.

Enjoy the rest of your snowy week!
