The State Police Bomb Squad confirmed that the bottle was "used by the custodians to notify people that the door was unlocked," Police Chief Alan Gordon said.

A reported suspicious bottle found by a custodian at Westborough High School on Wednesday night was actually a misunderstanding, Police Chief Alan Gordon said Thursday.

The State Police Bomb Squad confirmed that the bottle was "used by the custodians to notify people that the door was unlocked," Gordon said.

The custodian who reported the matter normally did not work that shift, Gordon said.

The bottle had "open written on the outside of it," he said.

The fire department also responded to the high school, at 90 West Main St., for the incident, which was reported at 10 p.m., according to the Westborough Fire log.
