The funeral will be at the Gormley Funeral Home on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Name.

Brig. Gen. William J. Gormley III of West Roxbury, died suddenly in Honolulu, HI. February 9, 2013 at the age of 74 years.

He was born in Roxbury and currently lived in West Roxbury.

Beloved husband of Mary R. (Timmerman). Loving father of LTC William J. US Army of Saudi Arabia, Mary Anne Cronin and her husband Michael T. of Marblehead, Karen J. Burns and her husband John of West Roxbury, Michael J. (B.F.D.) and his wife Karen M. of West Roxbury, and Michelle E. Gormley of Roslindale.

Loving grandfather to eight grandchildren. Brother of James P. of VT, Mary E. Clasby and her husband James of Ashland, Katherine A. Ahern of Westford, and Richard F. of West Roxbury and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Saturday, February 16th at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Name Church at 10 o’clock. Visiting hours Friday 3-8 p.m. Relatives and friends invited. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors.

He graduated from BC High, Boston College, Command and General Staff College and the US Army War College. He retired as a Brig. General from the Mass. Army National Guard. He was the former Battery Commander of the Nike Missile Site, former Battalion Commander of the 241st Field Artillery and former Personnel Director of the MA Army National Guard. Member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Co.

Bill was very active in his community and was a Director of Gormley Funeral Service, past president of the Holy Name Society, past member Board of Trustees of the Faulkner Hospital, past District Chairman of Boy Scouts of America Greater Boston Council and past Vice Chairman of the USO Council of New England. Member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Co. Bill loved summering in Scituate, fishing, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Holy Name St. Vincent de Paul Society 1689 Centre St. West Roxbury, MA 02132 or the USO New England 427 Commercial Street, Boston, MA 02109.
