Five Things You Need to Know Today, January 18

"Five Things you Need to Know Today" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance.

1. The week in Wilmington wraps up with temperatures starting to feel a little more like winter. According to  Weather.com, temperatures will only hit 27° on Friday as the weekend kicks off. The good news is skies will be mostly sunny throughout and there is no chance of precipitation.

2. Wilmington's basketball teams hit the hardwood tonight. At home, the girls team welcomes Burlington to town with freshmen, JV and varsity games scheduled for 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively. The boys team, meanwhile, hits the road against Burlington with the same schedule.

3. For many fans, watching sports seems like a matter of life or death. But for one on Thursday, that was actually the case as he fought for his life. A fan, reportedly in his 30s, had a cardiac episode while watching the Bruins practice. But thanks to the quick work of on and off duty officers, he was shocked with a defribillator and his life was saved.

4. Young readers will have a chance to discuss their latest read today at the library. Wilmington Memorial Library hosts a book discussion for kids age nine and older, beginning at 3:45 p.m., when they'll discuss The Lemonade Crime by Jacqueline Davies.
