Wilmington Boy Spurs his Mother to Hold Breast Cancer Fundraiser
The second Boo Bakes for Breast Cancer event will be held Sunday, Oct. 30 at the Friendship Lodge. Here's how to get involved.
WILMINGTON, MA — After a less-than stellar turnout for the first edition of the Boo Bakes for Breast Cancer event, Wilmington resident Courtney Hadden was skeptical on whether or not to hold it again.
However, Hadden's second grade son Finn became her inspiration to try the event once again.
"I really wanted to do it for him," Hadden said."He's really excited about it."

When Finn was trying to understand Hadden's job at Dana-Farber Cancer institute and her work with Project Giving Kids, she realized she needed to find a way to get him to understand what it is to donate or give back. Finn loves Halloween as well as cooking and baking; and when the two put their heads together, Boo Bakes became the result.
Hadden holds breast cancer awareness very near and dear to her heart. Finn is named in honor of her aunt who was lost to breast cancer in her 50s. Hadden's son Lincoln is named in honor of her husband's aunt, who also lost a battle with the disease.

Hadden's husband, who is a Mason, was also able to connect the fundraiser with Friendship Lodge, eliminating part of the cost that hindered the event in its first year. Hadden added that just like Finn, the children of those at the Friendship Lodge wanted to get their kids involved in the fundraiser as well.
"Not only have we been touched by cancer in our lives, but our kids are in remembrance of these two amazing women who lost their battles young," Hadden said."Cancer touches one in two women in their lives, so we wanted to do something to give back and in remembrance of their namesakes."
The second annual Boo Bakes for Breast Cancer event will be held on Oct. 30 at the Friendship Lodge located at 32 Church St. in Wilmington from 1 to 4 p.m. All are invited to attend the event, as well as donate baked goods and come enjoy them. If you can't make the event, you can donate by clicking here.
"We're hoping that people will come out this year and buy some baked goods, and even if they cant, they could stop by and contribute $5 to this great cause," said Hadden.
