Winchester– On Wednesday January 8th, the Winchester Democratic Town Committee voted unanimously to endorse State Rep. Jason Lewis in the special Democratic primary to fill now-Congresswoman Katherine Clark’s State Senate seat.
“Jason has always advanced true progressive, Democratic values, and has fought to bring in the kinds of resources our community needs,” said Bob Colt, Chairman of the Winchester Democratic Town Committee and a Democratic State Committeeman. “He has shown a deep commitment to investing in our public schools, providing universal access to affordable health care and addressing pressing infrastructure issues. Jason has been very attentive to the needs of those that he serves so conscientiously and I know he’ll continue to represent us well in the State Senate.”
Lewis was first elected in 2008 to be the State Representative for the 31st Middlesex District, which includes Stoneham and Winchester.
“As the State Representative for Winchester during these past five years, I have come to know and respect the work of the WDTC,” said Lewis. “I am honored to receive their support in this special election and will continue to fight for the needs of our community in the State Senate.”
The progressive Democratic candidate in the race to fill Katherine Clark’s seat, Lewis has led efforts in the legislature to improve the quality of healthcare for all and to ensure that all public schools receive adequate and equitable funding. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Health, and co-founded the legislature's Prevention for Health Caucus.
Lewis attended public schools, and received his undergraduate degree and MBA from Harvard. He and his wife Susan, a middle school science teacher, are the proud parents of two daughters, Sophie and Jessie. Before Lewis was elected State Representative, he helped build two successful software companies, which created hundreds of high-tech, good-paying jobs.
The special Democratic primary for the 5th Middlesex State Senate seat will be held on March 4th, and the General Election will be held on April 1st. The senate district includes the cities and towns of Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and parts of Winchester.
