Five Things You Need To Know Today, Sept. 10

North Woburn townhouse project on meeting agenda tonight.

Five Things You Need To Know Today, Sept. 10

Here are five things you need to know today in Woburn:

1) Event spotlight

The will meet tonight to discuss several items, including the condo development in North Woburn on Main Street. According to the agenda, developers would like to alter the special permit so that the project can have 49 condos and 40 townhomes for a total of 89 residential units at 859 Main Street. Meeting starts at 6 p.m.

2) WMHS Bulls-Eye

Some of you may remember that the staff members joined Woburn Patch last spring to report on student issues for the web site. Well, they are back and ready to work! You'll be seeing them on Woburn Patch soon, but if you're a student, you can subscribe to the Bulls-Eye WMHS edition for $3 during lunch Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You'll also be entered to win a $10 Dunkin' Donuts gift card.

3) Sunshine!

According to the  National Weather Service, we can expect sunshine for this fine Monday. Temperatures will likely stay in the mid-70s, making it quite comfy for most people.

4) In case you missed it

As always, we caught up with the week in news on Sunday morning. Find out what stories our readers were most interested in last week and read them for yourself. Our wrap-up is here.

5) The first drunk driving arrest

On this day in 1897, a London cab driver was the first person ever arrested for drunk driving. George Smith, 25, drove his taxi into a building. He plead guilty and was fined 25 shillings. Drunk driving laws would not come to America until 1910, when New York implemented impaired driving laws. As proven by countless Woburn Patch police logs, drunk driving is still an issue today.
