POLICE LOG: Woman Arrested in Middle of Main Street

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Oct. 2 – At 11:23 a.m., Tracy Ann Rao, 40, of 47 Everett St., was arrested and charged with shoplifting by asportation (third offense). According to police, Stop and Shop employees reported a woman matching Rao’s description had left the store without paying for over $200 in food. Police saw the woman running away from the store and being chased by employees. The officer blocked Rao’s path as she ran south on Main Street in the middle of the road and immediately placed her in custody. During investigation, Rao told police she stole the food because she had no money to pay for it. 


Other Incidents:

Oct. 2 –

At 2:38 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Lexington Street near McDonald’s. According to police, one driver was pulling out of the access road and did not yield to oncoming traffic. Police cited the driver for failure to use care and caution.  There were no reported injuries.

At 3:18 p.m., a Woburn man reported two of his credit cards were stolen from his wallet, which was kept in his car console, recently. According to police, the man did not know when the cards were stolen, but reported that both were used several times in the last month. Two charges were made at Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, totaling about $450; several transactions were made at Home Depot, totaling over $4,000 in merchandise. The man has cancelled both credit cards.

At 4:40 p.m., police were dispatched to the Beach and Clinton streets intersection at Mishawum Road. According to police, two cars collided at a four-way stop sign. Police reported it was unclear who entered the intersection first. There were no reported injuries.

At 4:40 p.m., an officer was called to another accident on Main Street at Mountain Street. According to police, one car was exiting Mountain when it was struck by a car traveling straight on Main. There were no reported injuries. Both vehicles were driven from the scene by the operators.

Oct. 3 –

At 8:04 a.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Washington Street. According to police, one car was exiting a West Cummings Park lot when it crossed the double-yellow line and struck a vehicle traveling on Washington. Both cars sustained damage and were towed from the scene, said police. One driver was transported to Winchester Hospital.
