Salem Street Family Welcomes Home Soldier

A Salem Street man is home, after a year-long deployment in Afghanistan.

According to several news organizations, the 182nd Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army returned to American soil in late March before heading back to their lives as civilians.

Spc. Jonathan Nestico of Salem Street was one of those soldiers.

The Nesticos were recently profiled on Boston's National Public Radio station, WBUR.In the story, Nestico's mother and he spoke to reporters about re-entering civilian society in Woburn after the solider was involved in an Improvised Explosion Device (IED) attack in Afghanistan.

Nestico told reporters the "anxieties" of war, along with the tempo, can take their toll physically and mentally on soldiers. To help ward off depression, Nestico said he is prepared to speak with therapists at home.
