Two Men Charged With Car Break-ins at YMCA

Woburn Police arrested two men for allegedly stealing three sets of keys from the YMCA over the past two weeks and stealing items from cars.

Police arrested Bret Michael Schettino, 31, 205 Middlesex St., Lowell, on Wednesday and charged him with receiving stolen property less than $250 and credit card fraud more than $250, identity fraud and conspiracy, and Derek Mark O’Loughlin, no age given, 17 Burlington St., Apt. A, Woburn, and charged him with credit card fraud more than $250, identity fraud, receiving stolen property less than $250, conspiracy, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and on two warrants.

Police received three separate calls from the Woburn YMCA since Feb. 25 about thefts from lockers and cars. The keys were stolen from YMCA lockers and then used to open the vehicles in the parking lot.

Two different times the thief left the keys on the front seat after entering the vehicles.

In the latest case, the victim said his car was moved and the keys were left in the ignition. In that case, the man’s debit card was used at Target in Woburn.

Police notified Target and they provided video surveillance of the suspect. Police found the suspect bought pre-paid gift cards for $100 with a service fee of $6. There were three purchases for a total of $318.

He reportedly returned a short time later and bought two more gift cards totaling $212.

Police got Schettino’s license plate and officers set up surveillance in the YMCA parking lot. A short time later, police spotted Schettino leaving the parking lot as a passenger in a vehicle.

Police pulled over the vehicle on Lexington Street and spoke to Schettino. Police told Schettino that there were video images showing him using the stolen debit card. The Lowell man reportedly admitted to the thefts and purchases.

Police arrested Schettino and O’Loughlin, the driver of the vehicle.
