Teen Drowns In Lake Quinsigamond, Lake Park

The teen was swimming outside of the designated area, and relatives said he was not a strong swimmer.

WORCESTER, MA—A teenager drowned while swimming in Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester on Sunday evening.

On July 2, around 6:50 p.m., police responded to Lake Park, where a missing boy's brother and cousin told them that the 17-year-old was last seen about 45 minutes before calling police. The male had been swimming outside the designated area near a buoy, and relatives told police he was not a strong swimmer, but no one heard any swimmers in distress.

The Worcester Fire Department Scuba Team was called in and a member of that team located the body around 7:41 p.m. about 159 feet from shore in approximately 30 feet of water.

The victim was immediately provided with emergency medical care at the scene, where the victim's parents had arrived, and then transported to a nearby hospital, said police. He was pronounced dead at 7:56 p.m. at the hospital.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Worcester Police detectives and members of the WPD Crime Scene Unit arrived at the location. Several people were interviewed and the scene documented. The Shrewsbury Police Marine Unit was also on scene as well as the Environmental Police. Both agencies assisted in the recovery operation.

The investigation remains active.
