Members of Crossway Church will present a moralistic version of the classic play, “Little Red Riding Hood,” as part of its ongoing children’s theatre program on Saturday, April 12, starting at 4 p.m. at the church located at 282 Summer Street in Franklin, Mass.
According to Director Patty McLernon, “Little Red Riding Hood’ is specifically targeted to children and lasts just 30 minutes. While most of the play will adhere to its traditional plot, Crossway’s version will include adaptations of the original production emphasizing integrity and conviction.
The cast of “Little Red Riding Hood includes Jennifer Roca (as Little Red Riding Hood), Siobhan McLernon (The Wolf), Rebekah Tracy (Granny), Mike McLernon (Lumberjack), Sandy Tracy (The Wolf’s Mother) and Christan Tracy and Kelsey McLernon (Bunnies). Rebekah Tracy and Siobhan McLernon have adapted the play for Crossway’s use.
The April 12 production will be complete with characters in costume and makeup along with sets and scenery created by church members. The show will be open to the public free of charge (and regardless of church affiliation) and the church features a large parking lot for vehicles and handicap-access interior facilities.
“While the play is tailored to young children, it is actually a good family event and very entertaining,” said Director McLernon. “We hope many people will attend.”
Following the April 12 production, a “Meet and Greet” with cast members will be held in the church basement and include free refreshments and crafts.
Crossway Church previously staged its versions of the children’s classics “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” “Goldilocks,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Cinderella.”
“We believe our children’s theatre program fills a need in the community for free activities for children of all ages,” said Roca, who heads Crossway’s theater ministry. “We want to get to know the people of this community better and provide an opportunity for them to get to know us as well.”
