Obituary: Doris (Garabedian) Ross, Member of Plainville Council on Aging
Doris "Dot" A. (Garabedian) Ross, 73, of Plainville, died Sept. 8, 2013 surrounded by family at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham where she had been a resident since June 1, 2013.
She was the wife of Leland "Lee" F. Ross Jr. to whom she was married June 3, 1961.
Born in Norwood May 1, 1940, she was daughter of the late Wilbur F. Garabedian Sr. and Kathleen (Reardon) Garabedian.
She was educated in Natick where she was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Natick High School. She later attended and graduated from the former Chandler Secretarial School in Boston.
Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Ross was employed as a medical secretary for surgeons at the former Framingham Union Hospital. She then dedicated herself to being a homemaker for her family. In later years, Mrs. Ross returned to the workforce and was employed as a medical secretary for surgeons at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, R.I. and for Codex, Inc. in Mansfield as a receptionist.
Prior to moving to Plainville 43 years ago she resided in North Attleboro and Providence, R.I.
A 50 year member of Central Congregational Church in the Village of Attleboro Falls, Mrs. Ross was an active member of the congregation having served as annual auction volunteer for many years, volunteer for the annual apple pie sale, a volunteer with the junior and senior youth fellowships and served for decades as the annual rummage sale chairperson.
In her youth she was a member of the Rainbow Girls in Natick and served as a den leader for Pack 46 of the Plainville Cub Scouts and Webelos.
She volunteered her time at local schools and was a coordinator for the American Red Cross blood drives held locally.
Mrs. Ross served as a warden at Plainville polling locations for elections, was a volunteer with the Plainville Project Reassurance and served as an associate member of the Plainville Council on Aging.
She was a member of the North Attleboro chapter of the Iota Iota Chapter Sigma Phi Gamma sorority.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her sons Leland "Skip" F. Ross III and his wife Deborah S. (Kenney) Ross of Plainville and Richard F. Ross and his wife Patricia Ross, of Auburn, Calif.; her six grandchildren Jami Lyne Ross of Millville, Brittney R. Pickering of Plainville, Nicholas L. Ross of Millville, Jacob Ross of Neston, United Kingdom, Olivia Caspers of Auburn, Calif. and Seamus L. Ross of Auburn, Calif.; her two great-grandchildren Cameron Ross of Millville and Allie Ross of Millville; her brother Wilbur F. Garabedian Jr. of Framingham; and several extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister Joan L. Smith who resided in Hollliston.
The Ross family gratefully acknowledges and extends their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Canterbury Woods, Attleboro; the staff at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham and the staff of the Private Care Health Care Options of Community VNA, Attleboro for their special care and devotion.
Entombment will be conducted privately at the Mausoleum of Forest Hills Cemetery, Fitchburg.
