arrested a 47-year-old Birmingham woman Tuesday night on suspected drunk driving and hit-and-run charges.
According to police reports, residents on the 2300 block of Derby heard a loud crash outside around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Several residents went outside, where they told police they saw a damaged car fleeing the area. Another parked car with extensive damage was parked in the street nearby, reports state.
Police say several of the residents got in their own cars and followed the vehicle, driving eastbound on Derby to southbound Coolidge. The suspected vehicle then pulled into the Rite Aid parking lot at Maple and Coolidge.
When officers arrived, they said they suspected the driver — the 47-year-old woman — was intoxicated. She was taken into custody and held until sober. She later posted bond and was released with a court date. The woman's blood alcohol level is still pending a toxicology report from the Michigan State Police crime lab.
