Weekend Planner: Birmingham Village Fair, Baconfest

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do this weekend. Birmingham Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time.

  • When: Thursday: noon-10 p.m.; Friday: noon-11 p.m.; Saturday: 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sunday: noon- 9 p.m.

  • Why Go: Whether you're a kid, or a kid at heart, you'll love to check out the Birmingham Village Fair, featuring carnival games, rides and plenty of fair food. Plus, a portion of the proceeds will go toward 15 local nonprofits. For more information, check out .

  • Why Go: Dust off your boogies shoes because you'll be dancing at Yatooma's Foundation for the Kids' Sunday Night Fever Gala, a 70's inspired VIP dinner and auction. All procceds from the event go toward , a Birmingham-based non-profit dedicated to providing assistance to kids and families who have lost a parent.

  • Where: Royal Oak Farmers Market (316 E 11 Mile Rd. in Royal Oak)
  • Cost: $45-$75
  • Why Go: Who doesn't love bacon? Royal Oak Farmers Market will host a celebration of everything bacon this weekend with Baconfest 2012. There will be hundreds of bacon samples, as well as representatives from local restaurants and celebrity chefs.

  • Where: Manresa Jesuit Retreat House (1390 Quarton Rd. in Bloomfield Hills)
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Celebrate with an outdoor mass this Sunday at the Manresa Jusuit Retreat House. Afterwards, there will be live music, face painting, hotdogs and hamburgers and face painting for the kids.

  • Why Go: The Robot Garage is celebrating its first birthday this Friday, and they have a day full of activities lined up for the whole family. Drop in to check out and play with an array of Legos, Duplo and other building materials. Live demonstrations include robotics demonstrations, hands-on “Sumo” robot competitions and a community Lego mosaic. Ferndale's Treat Dreams as well as Motor City Franks will be on site providing the food while parents will have an opportunity preview the Robot Garage's new summer camps.
