Suspect Sought in 'Lil' Chef' Attempted Robbery

Diners at got an unwelcome surprise with their meals Monday when a man attempted to rob the establishment at gunpoint.

According to Brighton Police Chief Thomas Wightman, a man entered the restaurant about 3 p.m. Monday, sat down and ordered lunch. After finishing his meal, he proceeded to the cash register, seemingly to pay his bill.  However, the moment owner Scott Steele opened the register door, the man pulled out a semi-automatic handgun, and started demanding money, Wightman said.

Lisa Quinn, a server at the restaurant, told Brighton Patch on Tuesday that Steele simply replied, "No," and shut the register. She says that the suspect then ran out the first set of doors and ran into a locked door, with Steele close on his heels.

"Scott chased after him and jumped on his back, but wasn't able to hold him," Quinn said.

After a short scuffle, the man fled to the parking lot and escaped in a silver Chevy Impala, with the license plate 1JYL46. It was later determined the vehicle had been stolen out of Lansing, police said.

Police currently are looking for the armed robber, who is described as a man between 28 and 33 years old, betwen 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, 150 pounds. He was wearing a jacket.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact the at 810-227-2700.
