Your Season of Giving Can Make a Difference

The holiday season has begun with a flurry. There’s shopping to do, food to prepare, and decorating to be done. But for many in Livingston County, the holidays are a difficult time due to foreclosures, wage reductions, and job losses.

Wondering how you can help? The Brighton District Library is a designated drop-off location for several organizations that help those in need during the holiday season. They are Gleaners Food Bank, Livingston United Way, Livingston Women’s Club, and Toys for Tots.

This holiday season consider giving to one of these worthwhile organizations. Simply bring your contributed items to the Library during each organizations’ designated drop-off time and they will be collected and sent to those in need. Your contributions, big or small, will help to brighten many lives in Livingston County this holiday season.

Here’s how you can help:

Gleaners Food Bank “Give a Hand for the Holidays” food drive program hopes to provide 500,000 meals to neighbors in need. Bring in non-perishable items to the library now through Dec. 31 to help feed hungry families in our community.

Livingston County United Way “Wishing on a Star” giving booklet highlights the needs of several Livingston organizations and the ways you can help. Pick up a booklet at the library to see how you can offer support.

The Livingston Women’s Club “The Giving Tree” program provides gifts for struggling families in Livingston County. The recipients, from infants to elderly, have been referred by a Livingston County organization. To participate, select a dove from the library’s Giving Tree between Nov. 19 and Dec.  5. Each dove gives a specific recipient’s request. Purchase the request, wrap it and bring the gift and dove tag back to the Library’s Information Desk.

Toys for Tots began in 1991 with a goal to provide a shiny new toy at Christmas to needy children. Unwrapped toys can be brought to the library Nov. 19 –Dec. 17.
