Clawson Seniors Receive Scholarships, Honors at Awards Ceremony

The students were recognized for academic and athletic success as well as service to the community.

seniors were awarded with honor cords, medallions, department recognition and thousands of dollars in scholarships Monday evening at an awards ceremony in the school's auditorium.

Representatives from several school and community organizations were at the event to present students with their scholarship awards.

Some seniors said the event was bittersweet, as they conclude their high school careers and prepare to attend college, join the workforce or enlist in the armed forces.

Alli Costine received four scholarships Monday. Costine signed a letter of intent .

"I'm proud," Costine said. "I've grown as a person a lot. I'm excited to move on." Costine said the hardest part will be separating from all of her classmates.

The honors convocation also recognized the top students in the class of 2012. Students in the National Honor Society received honor hoods and Principal Ryan Sines presented honor cords to students with a 3.0 grade point average or higher. Guidance counselor Peggy Ewick announced the valedictorian, Daniel Carpenter, and salutatorian, Lucas Rich.

At end of the ceremony, parents were able to place a medallion on their students.

"Seniors, you pledge to do everything you can in your power to succeed as an extraordinary citizen," Sines said before the medallion presentation. "Many of you have bonded and supported on another."

Senior Karly Crippen was surprised with a at the convocation.

"I was excited," Crippen said. "I feel accomplished."

The Clawson High School graduation will take place at 2 p.m. June 3 in the school gymnasium.
