Crime Report: Three Vacant Dearborn Homes Burglarized

Crime Report: Three Vacant Dearborn Homes Burglarized

Three break-ins to vacant Dearborn homes were reported within the past two weeks, according to reports.

On Aug. 18, an employee of the bank that owns a Dearborn home on the 7700 block of Miller went to check on the home and found that the side door had been kicked in. He told police that nothing had been stolen, but that all the faucets in the home had been turned on, causing the home and basement to flood.

The home had last been checked on by an employee on Aug. 10.

The same day, a break-in was reported by the owner of a vacant home on the 100 block of Melborn.

The man told police that he had been working on the home–which he was fixing up with the intent to sell–last at 5 p.m. on Aug. 16. Two days later, his neighbor called him to inform him that there was water running in the basement. Upon inspection, the owner found that about 16-20 feet of copper piping had been stolen from the basement, causing water to leak.

And on Tuesday, the owner of a home on the 1200 block of Beechmont reported that the home–which he was in the process of renovating–had been broken into.

The owner told police that he had last been in the home around June 21, and that the break-in must have happened some time within the past two months.

When the owner returned on Aug. 21, he found that the rear door was ajar and that multiple items had been stolen. They included 25 boxes of ceramic tile, a toilet that had yet to be installed, and a leaf blower. Police deduced that the door had been kicked in to gain entry, and advised the owner to change the locks and secure it.
